Hello! Welcome to  Reception’s class page. I am so excited to be your Teacher this year and can’t wait to take you all on a  magical journey.

We are really looking forward to working with your children this year and we cant wait to get started! At Carlton Mills we have worked hard to design our EYFS curriculum, with our children at the heart of the curriculum, thinking about what our children need to ensure they have the best possible start to school life, preparing them for a successful , happy, exciting, learning journey, at Carlton Mills Primary School.

Each term, parents will be invited into to share our ‘Super Starts’ where you will find out about what your child will be learning about during the upcoming weeks and  ‘Fab Finishes’, where your children will show case what the have learned through out the term.


Library – Every Monday your child will bring home a library book. Please sign your child’s reading record each time you share the books with the children.

Read, Write Ink – We follow the Read, Write Ink phonics scheme at Carlton Mills. We will be having a parents meeting to inform you on how you can support your child at home.

White Rose Maths- We follow the White Rose Maths Scheme of learning to support children’ s maths progression.

Each morning you are welcome to stay in the EYFS classroom to explore the provision with your children and ask any questions you may have.

Keyworker – Your child we be given a key worker. The role of the keyworker is to work closely with your and your child, building key relationships.

Communication – We use Class Dojo as the main way of communicating with parents, please see a member of staff if you have any difficulties accessing the app.

Autumn One

This term our theme will be ‘Super, Duper Me’. The children will learn all about their feeling and how to talk about how they are feeling. We will also learn about our families and the local area.

Our core stories are –

As well as our core stories we will also be learning about Senses/Seasonal Changes, Colour Mixing and What makes people special? Religions: Christianity, Judaism.

Each term we have key vocabulary. We will learn what each of the words mean and how to say them in a sentence. If you would like a print out of the vocabulary, please see a member of staff.
